About me
Hi there, I’m Kate, an author-illustrator based in WA’s southwest.
My illustrations are traditionally made using nib ink and watercolour, and I’m greatly influenced by the nature around me.
I’ve always loved art and stories, and it’s a great pleasure to be make my own. I take inspiration from the world around me, and have a particular soft spot for the Southwest. Quentin Blake, Beatrix Potter, and Jill Barklem are great inspirations to me, as well as too many others to count.
Tweedsmere Cottage, where ideas come to nest
In my early 20s I was freelance writing and working as a nanny in Europe; I often found myself making little stories and illustrations for the children in my care, and self-published my first children's book. Later in Paris, I worked as an artist's assistant for several years which is where I learnt to paint in oils. I was lucky enough to be able to study my favourite artists through their work and locations, which had a great impact on my own work.
Now, I'm delighted to live in Busselton and be surrounded by incredible landscapes and natural beauty. I work both in oils, as well as ink and watercolour and really enjoy the diversity of style from fine art to illustration. I currently have new children's book in production, and am working on the illustrations for another in development, and am building two different collections in oils for upcoming exhibitions.
